Blogging in the Blogosphere

FORMAT:
When you blog, in the Title, write your first and last name as you would as if you are turning in a paper to me. Then you do not have to write my name because I know you are in my class. Write what English class you are in whether it is English 52, 60, 100 and what College.

For example, one would write:

English 801 B
Long Beach City College
Post #1

Homelessness

In addition, for the title, pick the topic of discussion, grammar/organization, content, current events, pop culture or literature as a TITLE that we have discussed in class. Write the posts like this: write #1 Post or #2 Post or Post #50, so I can easily keep track of them and how many you write.

Of course, you are welcome to write more than several posts, and in doing so is another form of participation and does count in the participation grade. Perhaps, in class, you may not participate all that much but in the realm of the blogosphere, you can from the comfort of your own home,

* reflect on the day's class discussion or offer up an insight that you found particularly interesting, etc., etc.
*

* How does it change the way you think or thought before on the subject?
*

* What actions might you take in the future? Anything is open to interpretation.

Of course, I need not go on and on about being respectful towards your peers' opinions and beliefs. If you disagree with another student's views be discreet about it: Do not say so and so is completely wrong because of this and that. Instead, say, I disagree with so and so and here are the reasons why I do. Go after their evidence and support and do not, I repeat do not attack someone else personally. This is supposed to be a forum for everyone to share their ideas and views.

*I will enforce the blogosphere by either deleting your hard work, making an example out of you here in the realm of the blogosphere or in class* . . .

    Allegory of the Cave

In Allegory of the Cave, Plato discusses the illusions these prisoners went through their whole life instead of seeing the reality of the world. In his novel The Republican, Socrates is speaking to Glaucon about these false manners. The lies these prisoners had suffer from. In Allegory of the Cave, Plato says, “To them, I said, the truth would be literally nothing but the shadows of the images.” (13) As Socrates speaks his philosophy to Glaucon of the prisoners living in the den their whole life and seeing life as shadows of puppets, Glaucon hatred in disgust. He is shame that such people would put others through such lies of what life really is. I, myself, had been behind illusion in my life. As a young girl I would watch family movies. I later got accustom to thinking a family should always stay together through thin and thick. Well apparently when I started my first year of middle school, my family slowly started to isolate to their own regions. I was surprise, thinking how could this be? Movies do not show this on television? Well at the end it turned out to be that Hollywood is just Hollywood, nothing is ever really real from movies or sitcoms…at least not with my family.

In The Allegory of the Cave by Plato, Plato uses Socrates and Glaucon to describe a story in order to reach out to Glaucon and explain a moral or philosophical meaning. His story begins with many prisoners chained down to the wall of the cave and restricted of movement from their bodies and head-- only allowing them to see the shadows being casted on to the wall made by the fire above and behind them. Towards the end a prisoner is able to break loose from the shackles and is encountered by the real world showed in light (sun). He gradually adapts to this and realizes that reality and life is not what is shown on the walls. He is enlightened and knows that Truth is not merely what the eye can see but there must be logic and understanding of the world to fully know the Truth.
Socrates is saying that the prisoners in the cave were ignorant,"To them, I said, the truth would be literally nothing but the shadows of the images"(13). Although the prisoners thought they had a full understanding of the world, Socrates is saying that in reality they didnt because they were not at liberty to know reason with logic and experience life as it truly is.
What I get from this story is that, I cannot simply believe anything is the way it appears to be or believe it real just because I see it; but I have to experience it and logically come up with an explanation to fully comprehend life.

    ALlegory OF The Cave

allegory of the cave is that we perceive and believe in what is reality.that all we perceive are imperfect reflections of the ultimate forms, which represent truth and reality. Like life keeps us bound in chains until we know how to break free and bring light into our world. the chains are there to push us to the limit.

plato sees us as how we should be so he puts rea life situations on how people think but in different words.

it may be hard to understand him since he use alot of matpephors but you will catch his drift. I understand where hes coming from because i use to be him, i had myself into a dark corner that i could not get out of. but i was free for a minute but now im back in that corner trying to find the batterys to my light!

    Allegory Of The Cave

In allegory of the cave if you have read the story. This just shows us how we people are very curious about things and having three people getting stuck in a cave since they were born can make them very curious what's outside. People have a lot of questions. Imagine if your stuck in a cave with two other people chained up all together and there's a fire in front of you with marionettes, won't you ask yourself why? why am i here?, where am i?, what am i doing? and what's behind all these?. Of course you will and that's because people are curious. Then suddenly you broke out of the chains and actually got outside the cave you suddenly see the sunlight. However that beam of light blinded you, and after that effect you see the world and the truth you see everything and you think you know what's going on and now you suddenly change because you know what's behind all these and you think that your better than the ones that are still stuck inside the cave. However you are more blinded being outside. This allegory tells us that some things are better left alone or else something else will happen, a bad or a good change.A person might be blinded by that change .Sometimes it's better to be innocent and somehow not knowing rather than knowing but I really think that would be rather impossible for us humans because we are so curious and tempting people.

    Allegory of the cave

I agree with Florencio that if your stuck somewhere for along time your going to ask yourself questions or even be afraid there are many things that the story tells us and can relate to. ''In Allegory of the cave" plato discusses the cave which represents Insitutions that make me who I am today. There Many prisoners chained down from there head to there bodies on the wall of the cave not able to see anything but the shadows casted on to the wall made by the fire above and behind them. Allegory the cave shows that they couldn't escape and explore there life and never know what a good life really is like. "Which he will conceive to be in reality clearer than the things which are now being shown to him.. line 17. In my life I grew up having a hard life and i realized there is many other people having a harder life than me and to be thankful for what we have.

    Allegory of the cave

In Allegory of the cave , plato discusses the cave, which represents institutions that make me who i am today. In this fable i truely understand that they are different ways of life, but you need to see them to be able to experience them.
People have so many different ways of life that is why plato introduces us to the imperfect reflection of the ultimate forms, which makes us represent the truth and the reality of life. When you are in a certain place, you actually do not know what is going on, on the other side of the world. Life is so strange. For example, when i was back home in Africa, i have always wanted to come to USA, because what we see in the media , is good that you really think the streets are made of honey and gold. Wait untill you visit then you know that it is not as easy as you think.
Family members also do not help matters because if only some of them tell people the truth on what they encounter when they visit the other side of the world before you, i know the people will also have a second thought about living there chains and the dream of crossing over the fence.
Plato says'' Better to be poor servant of a poor master, and to endure anything, rather than think as they do and live after their manner''(30). This is simply truth because , if people are educated about the other side of the fence, i think some will love to have their chain on and enjoy the cave were they are at.

    Separation encounter return
What I understood about the separation encounter return was that it talks about god a lot and describes a variety of examples of all types of heroes. The people just believe on that because we are raise that way. The author states, “If you read spiritual stories closely, one will see that there is always a task within a task a struggle alongside the struggle.” (Paragraph 7;2nd sentence) I think he is saying that it is not only about doing the job. There is other things that have to be done within the challenge. People only see the outside scene without seeing out hard it was to get it done.

In "The Alllegory of the Cave," Plato talks about having a "safe zone" in our lifes hat people try to grow apart from to experience new things. Growing up, I remember always wanting to stay home with my mom. I grew accustom to having her there with me. As i got older, I wanted to do new things. But I was not sure if it was right for me too. I was afraid to leave my house, the place where I loved to be the most. Plato mentions, "Here they have been from their childhood, and have their legs and necks chained so that they cannot move" (1). It is stating how when a person is raised by where they live or come from, they have to stay there. Their souls are bound to their born place. They cannot go anywhere, and what they experience there is knowledge they take in for themselves.

  63. Allegory of cave Plato discusses the care which represents institution that makes me who I am today. Starting from the first paragraph in the book he explains how we grew up from a society. This means that where we grew up determines who we are and how we behave. Socrates narrates to his followers that if the prisoners will be released they will be liberate and compelled to stand up. Meaning that when we adapt to a different society or knowledge we will be liberated, advance and know the truth. Plato signifies that it is better to learn and be adaptive to philosophy of life than to remain under the same institution without learning. Plato says, better to be poor servant of a poor master, and to endure anything, rather than think as they do and live after their manner “(30)”. My experience in life has been more of staying together with family, friends and relatives. For example, I grow up in a culture where people are closer to each which makes me work less. While when I moved to the United States I found it difficult to get closer to people because of time factor and work.

    The Allegory of the Cave

In "The Allegory of the Cave," Plato writes "but, whether true or false, my opinion is that in the world of knowledge the idea of good appears last of all, and is seen only with an effort" (36). My interpetation on this is that, you have to live your own life and want better for your self. And not to be comfortable of where your at. Learn more, challenge your self. Because if you work really hard and care about something you will receive wisdom. There were times in my life that I wanted to give up and go back to my old ways, but going through life and challenging myself gave me alot of courage and strength. And you gain more respect for your self. But its up to you if you want to better your self.

    Separation-Encounter-Return by Richard Rohr

Separation-Encounter-Return is about being Holy or "filled with our false selves"(5). Showing you the pain you went through, realizing the pain you went through. Also, rethink and be refresh, being "born again". Rohr writes, "unless the grain of wheat dies, it remains just a grain of wheat" (John 12:24) (5). It saying that, if you want to become a hero, noble, the old you needs to die. Meaning, whatever you have went through in your life and you want to be fillied with the Spirit, you can overcome it. Change it around, and start over to be "born again".

    The Allegory of the Cave

In “The Allegory of the Cave”, Plato discusses how prisoners seem to remain in chains and only see the shadows of there truth. The prisoners are mistaken that being chained in a cave is what truly is reality, but they are misguided. These groups of people only see shadows, which are upon the front wall of the cave. Upon the front wall the shadows show objects, which make the prisoners believe that the shadows are the most real things in the world. Socrates informs Glaucon that the prisoners who are willing to free themselves go through a rough start. They are blinded at first of what is honestly reality. I can relate to the prisoners because I am currently trying to live my own life and not my sisters. I have always looked up to my younger sisters shadow and never believed I could live and understand my life, until I entered college. In "Allegory of the Cave," Plato says, “He will be unable to see the realities of which in his former state he had seen the shadows; and then conceive some one saying to him, that what he saw before was an illusion, but that now, when he is approaching nearer to being and his eye is turned towards more real existence…”(15) In the quote, Socrates is explaining how the prisoners will not see what truly is reality because they have been chained since they were born. Also, the quote explains how it’s really not an illusion anymore when they are approaching and seeing more real existence.

    The Allegory of the Cave

In "The Allegory of the Cave" Plato discusses the cave, which represents institutions that make me who I am today. We grow up according to what others, specially our family, think is best. We only do,say and even like only what it is to say to be proper. There are many times in which we do not have a saying on what we really want for as they say we do not anything about life. As kids our parents choose everything for us. Once we are teenagers and stand up for our own decisions we began to discover that there is more to the world than what they let us see. In my case, my mother always wanted me to be by her side, she did not liked me messing around, playing or being noisy. I have always been shy and that is a big problem for me because it is harder to make friends. My mother never though me how to be social and just open to others. Now that i have grown up and see how everyone else is makes me anxious about myself. I wish i could just completely learn to get out of my shelf. Plato says "here they have been from their childhood, and have their legs and neck chained". Our childhood will make a long lasting, and life changing experience. The way we are raised will always stay with us.

    The Allegory of the Cave

The Allegory of the Cave is a short story in Plato's most famous book, The Republic. We all have read this story as when Socrates retells it to a young follower named Glaucon. Socrates' reason for retelling the story to Glaucon was to illustrate what it is to be a philosopher. In doing so, Socrates, describes philosophy as a love for wisdom and the human experience. Overall, the story discusses how we can become "enlightened" in one way or another. Whether it be by rising above the challenges of our past. Or more importantly, improving ones self for the benefit of others. One quote from the story has stood out to me about this very subject.

"And when he remembered his old habitation, and the wisdom of the den and his fellow-prisoners, do you not suppose that he would felicitate himself on the change, and pity them?"(27)

For me, I too would congratulate myself for rising above. I do not think I would pity others though, but rather help others to get to where I am in life. An "enlightened" state of knowing who I am, knowing what I will do, and knowing that I will try my best everyday.

    The Allegory of the Cave

In "Allegory of the Cave," Plato discusses the cave, which represents institutions that make me who I am today. On the first paragraph, Plato descirbes that the prisoner would mistake appearance of the shadows for reality. For example, if the marionette players are casting objects over the fire, the prisoners will see the shadows but could not see the real object. They will think the shadows on the wall were real. But, they would know nothing of the real causes of the shadows. And they have many questions about reality. Plato says," Above and behind them a fire blazing at a distane, and between the fire and the prisoners there is a raised way; and you will see, if you look, a low wall built along the way, like the screen whick marionette players have in front of them, over which they show the puppets."(1). Just like the prisoners who were taught by the marionette players, I was taught and guided about how to manage my life by my mother and oldest brother. I always questioned their ways of teaching me about "managing my life" and I was curious of doing things my way. I want to explore life and manage my life from my perspective instead of theirs.

In "Allegory of the Cave," Plato discusses the cave, which represents institutions that make who I am today. There are many different institutions that shape certain individuals. The biggest institution that shapes me is my family. My parents gave me the morals and instilled determination as I grew up. Another institution that shaped me who I am today is my friends. The friends you choose to have make up part of who you are. Plato says, "Better to be a poor servant of a poor master, and endure anything, rather than think as they do and live after their manner?" Which means its better to learn through your own trials than to try and learn through some other persons trial.

In "Allegory of the Cave" Plato discuses the cave, which represents Institutions that make me who I am today. What has shaped me to be who I am today would have to be my childhood. I had a pretty rough childhood with my father being abusive father and because of my father I have became strong and able to make hard choices under preasure My friends have also been a big part in my life. They have helped me through the thick and thin. Even though my friend have changed through the years but I have had three close friends for already ten years. They are amazing. Plato has said, " Better to be a poor servant of a poor master, and anything, rather than think as they do and live after their manner?"(30). Which practically means that it is better to learn on your own way than learning from someone else. Also it is better to be you.

    The Allegory in the Cave

In "Allegory of the Cave" Plato writes about how humans are depicted as being imprisoned by their bodies and perceive by sight only. If what would occur if people suddenly encountered the divine light of the sun, and soon realize the perceived true reality. "Allegory of the Cave" instituted me who I am today, by making me realize that maybe there's a shadow of truth, and make it understand that our lives can be one deception. That probably everything were looking at is a huge illusion as how television, movies, and even people can deceive us from the truth. By seeing, following, and listening to everything they have to say just by believing is true. But maybe is a good thing that we could be decepted since we may be afraid of the real truth. The quote that appealed to me was "Yes, he said, I think that he would rather suffer anything than entertain these false notions and live in this miserable manner". Which means that he would rather live in a miserable life then believe these false actions. Which very institute of what I try to connect to in my theory.

In “The Allegory of the Cave”, Plato discusses the cave which represents institutions that make me who I am today. Growing up I knew I would always have my mom around for the situations that I would go through whether it involved problems with friends or struggling to solve rudimentary math problems. I was naïve growing up, oblivious to what the future would unravel. Being the only child I had things pretty easily for my. My mom lacked the knowledge of speaking English so my parent teacher conferences were always a waste of time. Regardless of the circumstances my mom always wanted me to excel with my studies during K-12 grade, and I did. She helped shaped who I had become during my earlier years but now she has left me on my own. Plato says, “…when any of them is liberated and compelled suddenly to stand up and turn his neck round and walk and look towards the light, he will suffer sharp pains…” (15). When kids see things at a younger age they always want that “freedom” that parents don’t allow kids to have. When young kids are “grown-up” we become free to explore the world. Now that I have “grown up” I have become my own guide in finding where I stand in this life. Many people take awhile to realize how difficult it can be when we have to stand on our own and discover the hardships that life has in store.

In “The Allegory of the Cave”, Plato discusses the cave which represents institutions that make me who I am today. Throughout my life I have known I was a very blessed child. I am 18 almost 19 and my parents are still happily married. I have a lot of friends whose parents are divorced or who only have a single parent. Even though I was blessed with having both parents, they lacked the education needed to help me with my school work. My mom has some college experience, but not enough to help me with long division when I was in 4th grade and struggling with math as a whole. My mother soon over came that obstacle. Plato says, “…and he will be unable to see the realities of which in his former state he had seen the shadows; and then conceive someone saying to him, that what he saw before was an illusion, but that now, when he is approaching nearer to being and his eye is turned towards more real existence, he has a clearer vision…” (15) When I graduated 8th grade, the whole class was a buzz about what high schools we would all be going to. I told my class that I would be going to Millikan High School, and they laughed at me. My class thought it was funny that I, a white girl, was going to a public high school after 9 years of Catholic school. They never thought I could handle a public school. Well, I showed them! What I experienced while being in a public high school actually showed me the harsh realities of life outside of the more privileged private school education and atmosphere. My perspective on a complete family education changed in high school. I realized that not everyone’s parents were educated either in the subjects we learned in school or even in English! Despite my parents lack of education though, I was able to get through high school with their support even if it wasn’t direct help with my studies.

The hispanic man clipped my top of my car trying to beat me so he can get in the front because i was not going fast enough for him. His car hooked onto my car and he drived us to hit another car. And i just sitted their and prayed because he got out talkin all the spanish stuff knowin that I`m fluent in spangish saying it was my fault. Then the cold part a hispanic lady in front of us got out talkin all the spanish stuff to him then started sayin it was my fault. I do not care that they stick together I`m mad at the fact that the hispanics can not even know each other and stick up for each other but African american people can not do that. I got to watch my back everytime I leave my house if I`m walking. African Anerican people will kill theyself instead of sticking together, they IGNORANT!!!! just hope things get better ugh

    The Allegory of the Cave

In "Allegory of the Cave" Plato discuses the cave, which represents Institutions that make me who I am today. What has shaped me to be who I really am today would have to be the start of my sophomore year after changing my ways and finally growing up. I was not the same person during my middle school years and freshmen year. I met and hung out with the wrong crowd of people, always getting into fights, causing trouble with other students for no reason or because i thought my friends think it was cool and funny. The peoples I chose to hang out with were the actions I chose to do with, that is why who i am today isn't the person i was 5 years ago. Plato has said, " Better to be a poor servant of a poor master, and anything, rather than think as they do and live after their manner?"(30). In my opinion i think that it means that it is better to live your own life the way you wanna live it with the right peoples and it is true, don't follow other people's footsteps just because you think its cool and its what everyone is doing, you will never know what path it will lead you to, good or bad. I was introduced into living in the wrong scene because of the influences of my peers and fake friends, but i grew up out of it and i actually started living. The change was good because I was done playing the role of an irresponsible and careless person, karma was always a you know what. Choosing the right crowd and finding your real friends will do you good in life.

In separation-Encounter-Return by Richard Rohr, he explains how we interact with God, our fellow man and our lives. In my life, i have had so many mythic things that comes my way but one good thing is that i believe in God and believe in life afther death.Since i am a beliver of God even when iam going through rough times in my life, i still believe in God. Some times we as human get separated form the reallty of life and encounter the opposite. Also as a human being , i know that i have a guardian angel or a patron saint that guides me , i know this because, when every i work up in the morning, and something says to me do not go any were, i will not because any time it happens like that, and i disobey my instinct, once i live my house, some thing bad happens. But when those encounters are defitted,it is like when ''perseus confronts the serpent head of medusea''(5) of separation-encounter and reture. There is a higher being and there will always be.

In “Separation-Encounter-Return,” Richard Rohr discusses the ignorance that some people have towards the image of what they perceive to be a “hero”. Many people have become blind to who a hero really is when in actuality it can simply represents something bigger than ones own self. Growing up I was brought up in Catholic household. I would always attend Sunday mass and classes that related to the word of God. I never saw myself as a bad person or bad Catholic for that matter, but as I have grown up my mind has taken another path. There are two battles going within me, one is striving to see the “light” while the other is being stubborn on allowing myself go to someone with a “higher power”. Richard says, “…we can admire them at a safe distance, like a pious icon, but cleverly ignore their message and their actual journey”(10). I can not say that I am not a believer in Jesus, so like the quote, I consider myself to be an admirer looking from a safe distance. I overlook the importance of the message that Jesus has left for me to follow. Like many people, I lack the wisdom that is necessary to heighten my strength on becoming the follower I should be towards my hero.

In Separation-Encounter-Return by Richard Rohr focuses on being holy and spiritual. That In order to be our own hero we have to face challenges and overcome them as well, "...one will see that there is always a task within a task, a struggle alongside the struggle"(Paragraph 7). The description of a hero changes from person to person but a hero is nonetheless a person who is encountered with a obstacle and finds a way to over come it to reach his or her goals. I think what he is also trying to say is that while on this journey of overcoming obstacles, people must have faith in God or a higher power-- some sort of spirituality. When we have overcome our struggle and have faith we go through our second life out of the "two births". In this life we are enlightened and able to continue in a path that is bigger than us and continue achieving goals. I think this was a good read because I can really relate to what Rohr has to say. I know that following my dreams is not going to be a walk in the park and I will have to face some difficulties along the way but I think once I achieve it and am born again as a whole new person, will be rewarding and an emotion of accomplishment and faith will overcome me. I will be my own hero because I took on the journey that sometimes others turn away from.

    “Separation-Encounter-Return” by:Richard Rohr

In “Separation-Encounter-Return,” Richard Rohr discusses how certain people interact with GOD. In my life I`m faced with different obsitacles everyday. I get tested everywhere I go but i still keeps the faith in GOD. If I did not do what I was suppose to do and put my life on track I would be dead or in jail at this point. Sometimes our human form disobeys the reality and engage into the bad even though the person or persons thats watching over us told us not to do this or that and we still do it , something bad always happen. He even talks about how some people thinks of the word HERO and their meaning of it. But not knowing everyone has a little HERO in them, they just has to release it at the right time and place. In "Separation-encounter-return" richard says, "there is no room for pettiness or petulance or self-pity,or one is not,by definition,a hero." the quote is saying that bringing self-pity on yourself is not goinng to make you a HERO its makin you less of a HERO. thats why i never feel sorry for myself I just move on and progress in life.

Like why do i come across so many people that think lien is a okay. If I be so honest with you even when it hurts why can`t you be honest with me. They lie about the little things and get mad why you catch a attitude and agruments happen. How can you not hate liars? I don't lie or if i do i eventually tell the truth. The Bible is easier said than done.I can't forgive, and I doubt some of you can forgive. So my question is how do you forget about the hate, anger, humiliation, backstabbing and lies? How? I think we should make a distinction between being a "liar" and being "misquided". Some people do not know the truth and spread lies they heard from others. Others don't know the truth, thus they promote misquided and faulty information.Liars, on the other hand, know the truth but withhold the truth in favor of distorting the truth, so their promoting DELIBERATE FALSEHOODS. I wish I wish life can run smooth!!!!!!!!!!!

In "The Allegory of the Cave"Plato introduces us to this set of people whom of which have lived in a cage with out any connection to the outside world. Plato relates this story to us, were are those who live in that cave. Plato states in paragraph five, "Like ourselves, I replied; and they see only their own shadows, or the shadows of one another, which the fire throws on the opposite wall of the cave?" here he lets us know that we are just like one another because we live in this so called "cave" in which everyone is exactly that same and cant tell if what we are doing or what we are living is right or wrong. We believe that everything is true and real but in reality it is all an "illusion" as Plato likes to compare it to. On paragraph And if he is compelled to look straight at the light, will he not have a pain in his eyes which will make him turn away to take and take in the objects of vision which he can see, and which he will conceive to be in reality clearer than the things which are now being shown to him?" here he wants us to understand that it is okay to live outside of that cave, even just to peek a little. This wont hurt us or kill us but it will be a little startling. Most of us who have very close families are scared in a way to step out of the box because most of all we care too much about what our family thinks and what they will say about us. If we keep doing what everyone else is doing we are never going to get anywhere past that. And I ask myself what is going to become of the world of we continue doing this?

In "Separation—Encounter—Return by Richard Rohr" he speaks about the journey of a christian through life in regards to christian beliefs. Rhor sets everything pretty straight forward. In paragraph one he tells us on how a Christians life is set from the start, "Life will be death, failure and absurdity, which can lead to renewal, joy, and beauty." Just like died, rose, and will rise again, so will Christians. According to Christian beliefs it is pretty much inevitable that it is what it is and nothing can change it. Personally I believe that this can be true but how will we know that Christ is going to rise again? What if he has already risen? They do say that Christ can manifest himself in anyway. What if he is already here? For all we know he can be manifesting himself in this war we are currently in, or in this recession we are going through. We are all suffering because of these issues that we caused among ourselves just like Christ is going to sentence us all equally when he rises.

In “Separation, Encounter, Return,” Richard Rohr discusses the ignorant image that some people have of what they perceive to be a “hero”. Many different religions believe that their “god” is their hero, and they see other religious “gods” as a bad deity and therefore see those followers as bad people and think they should convert. I myself grew up in a Catholic/ Christian house-hold. I am a baptized Christian Lutheran, but I attended a Catholic school for the first 10 years of my schooling career. Since both religions are so close in belief and practice, it was not hard participating in both. I am also Native American, and our beliefs are close to Christianity. I prefer to follow Native American beliefs more mostly because I do not really like a few of the beliefs of the Catholic and Christian church. Richard says, “It is no surprise that the essential mystery of faith for Christians is not a creedal statement as much as a Christ-revealed, but also discernible pattern. It is not so much something you believe, as something you learn to do.” (1) I know the practices and beliefs of the Christian and Catholic Church, but that does not mean I believe what they teach. I have started to question the stories of the church. Our “rules” as some would say are in a collection that is better known as the Bible. The Bible was written a few hundred years after our “hero” (a.k.a. Jesus) died. It is an “accurate” account of what he said while he was alive. I have a hard time believing most of what is written in the Bible, seeing as it was written long after Jesus’ death. In any case, I do not really believe most of what was said to have happened when Jesus was around. Nonetheless, I have learned that someone did die for my “sins” and in the eyes of my church, I have come to practice gratitude for what our “hero” did for my “sins”.

In "Separation, Encounter, Return," Richard Rohr discusses what a "hero" is. Whether it is religious based or in a more literal sense. A lot of people have interpreted Rohr's words as to be of a more religious nature. Stating that people believe that God, whichever deity that might be, is their hero. But I think his words tell of one person, the person that has influenced us all to make a change for the better. As Rohr said, "There is always a wise elder, a guardian angel, a patron saint, a spirit guide, a wise teacher who has somehow sends us in one crucial direction and warns of the dangers and obstacles that will be encountered along the way." So, I think its like this, God is my Heavenly Father that watches over me. Christ is my Redeemer and the one who sacrificed himself for my sins. But my hero is and always will be my grandfather. It has been 16 years now since he has passed away. Even till this day I remember things that he did that I can apply in my life to be a better man and most importantly a better husband.

many people are to focus on everything else that they can't see real faith in life. he talks about there is a lot out there than your own life. well i agree that there is more out there than however religion there is something really good in believing something. I grew up jewish and through out my life till i was about 9 i stoped going and i started my junior year in a christen church and it has been different for me in my life.

In "Separation, Encounter, Return," Richard Rohr discusses that there is discernible pattern to people that follow a spiritual path. This pattern is everywhere but we must understand how to surrender to it. He explains that there are two births. One birth is biological. The second birth is spiritual where you receive your calling in life. In order to be a hero one must go beyond your private self and strive for something larger than oneself. Rohr states that invariably there is an elder, angel, wise teacher to assist in the quest to fulfill ones calling. Modern mans failure to reach ones calling is due to the fact that humans tend to have more than one god. By severing more than one god people are destined to fail because the loyalties are divided. To become a hero you must remain loyal to your calling. People are also distracted by money, meddling, and grandiosity. Those people are unable to fulfill their calling. To become a hero one must be able to complete the task and overcome obstacles and still be able to find love, humor and maintain freedom. One of the last qualities of a hero is that he is not selfish and able to acknowledge that others helped him along the way and he must be willing to share his gift with others. Passing it on to the next generation. Heroes never create themselves and usually are plagued by tragic flaws but surrenders and lets God use them to make him a hero. To those who have not found their calling true wisdom looks silly and simple and to easy however spiritual wisdom knows no boundaries or time. They are universal truths that never change.

    “Separation-Encounter-Return” by Richard Rohr

In “Separation-Encounter-Return,” Richard Rohr discusses how individuals depend on the faith and support of god. In my life, I believe and pray for better days. In reality god wont be there for you physically but be there for you spiritually. However, a hero is like god a model of christ. One who is looked upon as a guide of greatness and good morals. But as we grow older we have a different perspective on life and we tend to fall in the peer pressure lane. We can never pity on fault and bad morals but just to live with it and move on. In "Separation-encounter-return" richard says, "there is no room for pettiness or petulance or self-pity,or one is not,by definition,a hero."(7) As we get older pity is not going to change anything. Life won't be better if we have self-pity. If I want to be consider a hero I must not have self-pity and proceed with my life.

    “Separation-Encounter-Return”

In "Separation, Encounter, Return," Richard Rohr discusses how people depend on religion, and faith to support themselves to believe in something then lose faith to themselves. A lot of people dedicated their lives in religion by going to church, praying, and worshiping their beliefs. I believe, and pray once in a while to show support for my family since is my mother is a very religious person. Like Richard Rohr mentions there are those who live in patterns and there are those tell us of what we can trust. To point out how to live your life of those who tells us of what we can trust. I in the other hand would like to live in my own pattern since is like living in my own journey. One of the stories quote that appealed to me was "Without that protective figure, we lack both courage and focus. Although the negative side has many faces and forms"(4) in a way I actually believe this, I never really had a protective figure when I was young since I hardly bonded with my parents so my courage isn't that strong but my focus is my strength point in life. Deciding of what to do on my own then let others decide for me. It has been a rough childhood for me but deciding what I want to do is a great choice for me I may not have the courage but able to focus on it, I soon will.

In " Separation-Encounter-Return," by Richard Rohr talks about how faith and support of God really depends on a single person view. I believe that everyone does have there own different view of God. I didn't really grow up with knowing who God was and what exactly was so wonderful about our "father". Then one day I went to a church and was absolutely scared because it was something different to me and was out of my comfort zone. For some reason I just kept going even though I was not sure what I was getting my self into. But then I finally knew who God was and realized why I was put here on Earth. Richard Rohr says a quote that just has so much meaning to me which is, " There is not alternative, no other way to understand, than to go on the whole journey ourselves."(11) To me this means that to go on a journey with God or even the spirits you have to be able to go through obstacles. Also you have to go on this "Journey" by yourself because no one else is able to do it for you. It is practically a way of going through a walk to know your "father" more.

    Separation-Encounter-Return by Richard Rohr

In Separation-Encounter-Return, Richard Rohr discusses how individuals interact by the faith and support of god. I agree with Chakiya because when things get hard and put me down feeling hopeless, I pray for better days and i agree that in reality god wont be there to physically guide me himself but he will want me to have faith that he is there with support. Without any faith or support i wouldn't even be here. Richard Rohr talks about a hero, someone who fixes their own mistake upon with morals of experiences. But many people aren't the same, We walk on different paths, as we grow older we have a different perspective on life trying to reach our goals, some without a hero may tend to fall in the wrong direction. Richard Rohr said "..one will see that there is always a task within a task, a struggle alongside the struggle" (paragraph 7). Everyday is like a task, and not every task is easy, people sometimes struggle getting through the day. Life is like a challenge and our hero is what we need to get to where we need to go and for others if they can't complete a task, they will leave the unfinished pieces on the floor and move on. For me, i think of hope from god to get me started, i try to learn from others mistake so that i wont have unfinished pieces and can move on feeling accomplished.

    Separation-Encounter-Return

Based on the story, I can totally relate it from people's lives today. In today's society we do struggle for quite sometime until we achieve that goal. There's this song called Firework by Katy Perry where she sings about a person that just have to live through life until that person gets back up into his feet and it's time for that person to rise and shine. It is very similar from the story. Everyone goes through the point where things are hopeless and you think that you will never get out of that situation. But what the story says is keep trying and trying never surrender until you better yourself. Like right now i'm sure that mostly in college are people who struggles for their achievement. There is a saying that when you are in college you are broke. But if you do go to college while you are broke you are learning and those things you learn will be far more valuable than money. When you learn certain things that can turn into skill which is required for your certain jobs or business. Once you have acquired those you will start getting money and that is the time for you to say that you are a successful person and of-course if not only the money can say that you are successful, once you have a family that is stable and a job or business thats when you can start calling yourself successful. But it really depends on how the person is or what he/she thinks of success. "This pattern is inevitable, universal, and transformative"(paragraph 1). Inevitable he says I really do agree that this struggle is Inevitable and it will come to you when the right time comes. It is also universal because it happens to everyone and also transformative because anything that happens changes it could be for better or worse.

In Separation-Encounter-Return by Richard Rohr, he discusses about God and false heroes. For most people, since we are born we are taught to believe in a supreme being. We are determine to believe in a specific religion and God. I strongly believe there is someone, somewhere watching over us. The name of that being may not be the one of which I was taught to pray for. I believe that we as human beings often need the motivation to look after someone in order for us to want to accomplish great things. The mistake we make is to idealize the wrong people. As Richard Rohr says "we largely substitute celebrities for heroes"(6). We commonly come blind by the external beauty of the popular. They, just because are good looking, sing or appear on TV become our role model. Reality is that it is just a face, nothing but a facade to make money. The real heroes give without expecting glory.

in "separation-Encounter-return" by Richard Rohr he dicusses about faith, believe and false heroes. Many us believe in god and not really have faith. some people just know that there is a god because that is they were thought when they were little kids but do not really have faith in god.also in my opinion, people believe in god because there is fear in them, the only time that often people pray for god is when they are scared it could from having a sick parent so they pray so that they can get better or silly things like praying to pass the next test.richard also expalins tha there are false heroes and real heroes do not want anything in return." there is always a wise elder, a guardian angel, patron saint... wise teacher that somehow sends us in one crucial direction and warns of the dangers and obstacles that will be encountered along the way"(4)this made me think that even though we do not know it we could all even have the real hero in our own house, who has always being there with us since the beginning of our life.

In "separation-Encounter-return" by Richard Rohr he discusses about a hero and how many religions views what a hero is to them. How faith and religion is a major role to some people and to others there is no major significant in their life. Like how Alvaro explains that many of us believe in god and not really have faith. I think I am one of those people that know there is a god but really does not have faith. Like what Rohr talks about in paragraph three where he talks about "there sometimes comes a call. Probably it takes the form of longing, loneliness, desire, the knowledge that there must be more,"(1)from this quote it makes me realize that maybe I have not yet had that calling and when I do I will have a better connection of the different ways Rohr explains a hero and faith.

    "Separation-Encounter"

In "Separation-Encounter," Richard Rohr discusses about what is a hero. He mentions religion and examples of it, b y giving us images about the past and stories we have heard about. Everyone knows what makes a hero. We have seen them in comic books: Spider-Man, Superman, and Batman. And what makes them heroes? They risk their lives to save humans, protect the good from evil, but most of all, people look at the as a model for themselves. That is how they are recognized. Although these are just made up people, heroes do exist in real life. They are the people who help someone to become a better person. It can be a parent, teacher, or even a friend. Something they did for you, that in your eyes they are your role model, another term for hero. Rohr states, “without that protective figure, we lack both courage and focus"(4). Everyone has someone they look up to and the reasons why. They are the figure that helps the person keep on going through the tough obstacles that life throws at them.

In separation encounter return, Richard Rohr discusses about God and hero. With his message I learned that we have all lived in a way that is not moral. Its significant meaning that we are not perfect being but the only way to be perfect is to stay focus and seek for guidance. I grew up in a Christian family and also as child knowing that I came from a family that has good moral life I should try to stay focus. Sometimes ask questions to parents and family members. Without a protective figure we lack both courage and focus “(4)”. As I grow up I believed in this saying that there is no hero in civilized world, but civilization is always in process. With this fact it made me knows that I can never be an island to myself, but instead seek for knowledge and hang out with the right people. Not just asking questions also making the right research for what you are looking for.

    "Seperation-Encounter-Return"

In "Seperation-Encounter-Return," Richard Rohr expresses that god does not operate under human rules. God is free, no matter who you are, he will alway be there. God is a guardian who protects and gives people that extra push so they can go through obstacles throughout their lives. "without that protective figure, we lack both courage and focus"(4). If someone has no one to look up to and cherish, it will be hard to stay motivated and get through everyday life obstacles.Richard Rohr also expresses how hard it is to know how and what to do to achieve real spiritual strength and direction.

    Mindset

While reading the introduction of Mindset by Carlos
Dweck I was profoundly interested and attached to it, since my major has to do with psychology. Many stuff that I read were impressive. In mindset Carlos Dweck says " Growth Mindset allows people to thrive during some of the most challenging times in their lives" (7). This was pointed out to me, because it has been proven that we have to be challenged in order to succeed in life. Now we are able to understand some challenges that were presented in the past for example, in my English 20 class I would always get a C for everything! I did not realized that I did not want to challenge myself.
I am really looking forward into finishing up this book.

    Allegory of the Cave

I have read this story before but each time I read it I learn something new. This story is something for each one of us to learn about ourselves and others. During this reading I learned that life is best dealt through ones own experience. In Allegory of the Cave, Plato says that we must go out into the light and see the truth for ourselves. In line 19 he states, "When he approaches the light his eyes will be dazzled..." Here he talks about the sun meaning the "truth" takes time to get adjusted to. At first when we are told something we do not want to hear we deny it. Many times I have been told the truth about something and I perfer to run the other way. I am in a comfort zone where I do not want to be taken out of, therefor my cave. Once the truth is seen by my own eyes it takes me some time to get use to what I thought was the truth. So in the end no matter how tough the situation seems I must face it and leave my cave.

    Separation-Encounter -Return

At first I did not understand the exact meaning of the whole story but I did grasp a few concepts. I had to read it many times in order to understand it but I thought it was very spiritual. It talked a lot about God. The spiritual path one must take in order to be enlightened. Richard Rohr talks about God and how people like him die. What I understood was that God is like a hero. He always comes back or is always there. Whether you are a sinner or not he is here to rescue you. In paragraph 10 Richard Rohr says " Then, we can admire them at a safe distance, like a pious icon, but cleverly ignore their message and their actual journey." This made me think a lot about how God had to die for us in order for us to worship and love him. Even though Gods word is every where we ignore it. We go the way we want and do not listen to what he want. It made me realize how I am so self centered and I am always after what I want. Not including a hero in my path is my biggest mistake. Yet that hero always comes back home.

    Dear Aaron Sobolew,

I hope I spelled your last name right. Thank you coming to our class and telling us your story about battling cancer. I am sure it was not an easy thing for you to go through. I really enjoyed listening to you story. It reminded me of my friend who found out she had OCD. I know it is not as bad as cancer, but she had points where she just wanted to give up on things because she saw this problem as something negative that is going to ruin her life. Like how you saw cancer I bet. Also, like you, she decided not to give up, and when she missed school for almost two months, she came back, knowing she could not let her problem affect her life. Just like how you went back to school. I am glad you did not give up on wanting to go back to school. I can see that you seem happy and content with where you are going with your life and you seem like a strong person. Thank you again, your story was inspirational.

First things first, I am sorry I showed late to class. I wish I could have been on time so I could have heard you from the beginning. I am glad to hear that you are a cancer surviver. It takes a lot of courage to stay in school and stand your ground. You have true leadership ability. And about your parents, do not listen to them. Take the path you want to take in your life. My mother also tries to tell me what to do, but I have to ignore her and go my own way. Keep moving foward and don't let anyone tell you what to do. Thank you for showing up to our class, I know you inspired our class to never give up on ourselves. Take care Aaron.

I want to give thanks to our speaker Aaron Sobolew for his amazing speech today. It is amazing how he was able to overcome cancer that sickness that has killed many people, even some of my very own family members. It is tough to hear just that word “cancer” and just to imagine it happening to you must have been devastating. Cancer has been a part of my family heritage; many of my relatives have been diagnosed with some sort of cancer and so far only about 3 have overcame it. Unfortunately one of those persons who were diagnosed was my mother. She was diagnosed with breast cancer about 3 years ago, I completely understand what situation Aaron was in. even though it was in my body or anything I practically went through every procedure because I was always by my mother’s side. Everywhere she had to go I would take care, for Aaron it must have been worse because he had to battle cancer at such a young age instead of partying or doing other things a young person would do him had to battle this. Luckily for my mother her cancer mass was only the size of a lemon so her breast was not needed to be removed only the mass itself. Id say for her and for us to watch the worst part could have been the radiation and the chemo therapies. Once her hair starting falling off due to the therapies she just decided to cut everything off because eventually it would fall off. I am so proud of m mother she is such a strong women that have overcome so many situations in life. I totally understand the situation Aaron was in I know how devastating. Thank you Aaron for your speech life is not easy at all for nobody but luckily we can overcome many situations.

In allogory the cave, Plato discusses how prisioners are stuck in a cave that is holding them back from seeing the real world. The cave I believe symbolizes anyobstical you have in life. It may be work, school, or even personal problems. Because you are stuck trying to solve the problem you have, you do not realize there is so much more out there for you to learn. People choose not to because they are afraid, and do not know what to expect. Thoes who are afraid just remember the words of Plato in paragraph 21
" He will require to grow accustomed to the sight of the upper world.". Meaning it is going to take a while to adapt to the hardships of life but eventually you will get used to it. For the real world is an obsticle you can not ignore

Your story was very heartfelt and I could not imagine the stress and struggle it took to overcome this major battle in your life. The bravery and strength it took for you to want to still continue to finish high school showed how much determination you still had for a normal life. The story you shared showed me that anything is possible in life. My brother was killed in Afghanistan only a year and a half ago. At that moment in my life I thought nothing was possible and I would not be able to achieve anything. Mourning the loss of a person so close to you is a difficult task to say the least. The positive outlook you have for life even though you were battling cancer shows how big your heart is. It makes me realize that my life is worth living because I could have it worse. Your story makes me want to strive for better and always push myself to do my very best. Thank you for sharing.

It takes a lot of courage for someone to speak about their struggle with cancer at a such young age. For having cancer at such early age you are very strong, and courageous for being able to fight against it and finding stronger hope from one person you met at the hospital. I'm glad to hear that one person in this world was able to make a change in someones life, because it shows that there's someone out there that can change a lot of aspect in that persons life. I really appreciated hearing you speak. I understand maybe a little bit more than most about cancer and pain. My grandfather had lung cancer and beat it, but then he was diagnosed with a violent brain tumor that finally did him in. When you talked about the needle going into your back, I know personally how that feels. I have a genetic spine disorder that will, if left untreated, cause my to be paralyzed. Once every 6 months I used to get a drug injected into my spine in between 2 bones. Which huts like no other as you well know. The strength you show to others, whether you know it or not, does inspire. Inspire others to keep moving forward and endure. I wish you the best and to ask you to keep being an example.

First of, thank you Professor Hsiao for letting me join in on this experience. I had never been to a Horse Ranch before, so this was a new experience for me. I have been a vegetarian for almost two years and have become really fond of animals. Knowing how well this place took so much care and time to protect, shelter and love these animals was wonderful. Thanks to Glen and his inner voice he was able to create a wonderful sanctuary for these animals. I also learned something new that day. I really did not know the existence of debarking, but after the trip I searched for debarking and found out a little more regarding this subject. However, the best part of the day was being able to brush the miniature horses, while most of them were chasing after me for carrots! I am glad I came along for the trip.

    Dear Aaron Sobolew,
I enjoyed hearing you tell my class your story. It takes an immense amount of courage to talk to a room full of people you do not know and tell them one of the biggest events in your life. What touched me the most was when you talked about having to sit for 6 hours getting chemotherapy. My grandmother just recently passed away from breast cancer. she had t for 11 years and at one point in the beginning they thought they had cured her. I commend you for being so strong and not giving up with your fight with cancer. Never give up, you have so much to life for! You are very blessed to have such great people in your life. Take care!

    Separation-Encounter-Return by Richard Rohr
Discussing Religion, beliefs, hereo and how it impacts people lives. I think many people believe there is a God and most people are followers that will mention there God, but not have faith and spiritual connection with there God. I believe there's a God whom created the earth including us humans which is unbelievably Great. Although I've grew up as a christian under my parents wishes, I discovered on my own that I truly believe in God and his son Jesus christ who died for my sins. I have faith in my spiritual belief that my spirit in this shell called body is a temporary home and someday it will be with my Lord in heaven. My trials and tribulation in my life that I've been through proves to me that there's a God. It is states by Richard, "There is always a wise elder, a guardian angel, a patron saint, a spirit guide, a wise teacher who somehow sends us in one crucial direction and warns of the dangers and obstacles that will be encountered along the way"(3). My Grandmother to me was my hereo who inspired me to become the best that I could become as a whole. Now that she transended to the other world about a year ago, she will always be my gaurdian angel.

    Reflection on Horse Ranch
The horse Ranch was a wonderful experience to me because it was my first time to feed an animal like horse and donkey. I felt for those animals because most of them were found on the street and have no shelter, but the horse ranch gave them shelter. All these shelter and caring would not have happen if someone didn’t provide for these animals. I felt for them and at the same time am glad that I had the privileged to feed them and nurture them for some minutes. I am grateful to Professor Hsiao who made it possible, and also grateful to Glen who walked with his right mind to providing for these animals.

    Cathedral

In "Cathedral", Raymond Carver talks about his experience with a blind man(Robert). The story is mainly about the narrator trying to describe the cathedral to Robert. When the narrator finds himself struggling to describe the cathedral, he says, "I'm just no good at it." What he is trying to say is that he cannot describe the cathedral because he does not have strong feelings about it. Maybe because blind people have stronger feeling/sensitivity because they cannot see? So, the Robert tells him to close his eyes and draw it out on paper so he can picture it in his head from different perspective and feel it. Since blind people cannot see, their feelings get stronger than people without disabilities. So, at the end Robert helped him discover that with his eyes close, he can only feel. When he opens his eyes to see what he drew he said, "It's really something." My neighbor is a blind old man. I once asked him what is like to be blind. He says that since he cannot see, his ability to listen and to smell have immensly improved. He also said that sometimes he can see shadows. And just like Robert in the story, my neighbor also likes to have the television on so he can listen to what's going on.

    Cathedral
In the Cathedral a blind man comes to visit his old friend of many years and who is a devoted wife. The blind man met his wife because she would read to him and help organize things for him. The husband does not find any interest in talking to the blind man he views him as almost repulsive. The blind man was visiting the husband's wife because his wife had passed away with cancer. The husband almost felt jealous of the relationship between his wife and the blind man. The wife left to let them talk and get to know each other. The husband and the blind man smoked some marijuana and the husband began to talk to the blind man about what was on the television set. The husband ended up describing a cathedral. Doing this he was able to put himself in the blind mans shoes. He viewed him as a person now. The husband ended up drawing the cathedral with his eyes closed. He now knew how the blind man viewed life. This story shows that you can see without using your eyes. You can still view life with different senses. The husband finally understood that the blind man could actually "see."

    "Cathedra"l by Raymond Carver
This story was good :) Raymond carver talks about how his wife has a friend name Robert and he is a blind man. Raymond talks about his experience with the blind man robert and how he is trying to describe the cathedral to him. raymond has trouble explaining and describing to robert so he says " I'm just no good at it" raymond was not really in to it as much as how blind men are and so robert replied go get paper and pen and told him to close his eyes and draw the cathedral and imagine and i have a friend that is blind and she listens and feels what she is doing. its neat to know that even if your blind you can still do things.

    The Cathedral

The cathedral by Raymond carver began in an unfamiliar way that I could not infer exactly what the story is going to look like. Robert the blind man was loved by Bub’s wife and was allowed to spend some time with them in their house. Nevertheless their kindness to the blind man yielded a good result. According to the story we where told that the blind man told Bub to get a pen and a paper so they can draw together. It was so impressing that Bub did what he said, and followed the whole procedure like the blind man ordered. He closed his eyes; he drew and did not to fudge. Significantly, it became the sense of what Bub can do with his mind. To draw without feeling like he was inside anything while drawing, but achieving the right sketch of the buttresses.

    Cathedral

The Cathedral by Raymond Carver is a story that at first I did not know what is was trying to go for. At first it seemed that Bub was jealous of the relationship between his wife and Robert the blind man. It seemed like this because of how she would always make videos and have it sent to Robert. Then Bub has to deal with the Blind Man coming to his house. Bub of course having no idea how to react to a blind man because he has never been around one starts trying to make small talk. His tries to be helpful to Robert by showing him where to sit and to watch out with what is up ahead. I liked this story. I found it to be very interesting especially how in the last section on the story he says, " My eyes are still closed. I was in my house. I knew that. But I didn't feel like I was inside anything.". This part to me seemed like he understood how the blind man and that there was a sort of connection between the two. It was something amazing to both because they learned new things about something they haven't known about before.

"The Cathedral" by Raymond Carver describes a story about how they met a blind man named Robert, who the couple wanted to help by bringing him in to their home. Bub's wife had caring feelings for the blind man due to spending time with the couple, and able to open up to them. The story seems to throw off the readers by the way the characters actions and words in the story as how their night started off with drinking and ending with Bub and Robert drawing on Bub's wife. It's surprising how a random couple can have so much trust to a stranger in the world. Showing you that there's more to learn from people from their past, and actions. The quote in the story "It just isn't in me to do it. I can't do any more than I've done" this part really seem to connect to the characters in the story because what if the blind man has done more than he can in life due to his vision being gone, and how has his action stood after hearing that from Bub. There are some various connections in this story that attracts the reader to spark an interest to them to learn new things about something.

    The Cathedral

"The Cathedral" by Raymond Carver depicts an event where a man named Bub meets his wife's friend of 10 years who is blind, and talks about Bubs struggle with meeting the blind man. Even thought his wife has known this name fore a number of years, Bub is not to comfortable in the beginning to accept the blind man named Robert into his home. Soon Bub founds out that Robert is a respectable gentleman and is very knowledgeable for being blind. Robert and Bub connect in a way Bub never thought possible. Carver says, "I took up the pen again, and he found my hand. I kept at it. I'm no artist. But I kept drawing just the same." From this line I can tell that Bub had come to trust Robert even when he did not even know the man. It goes to show how much someone can trust a complete stranger and invite them into their home.

in this short t story "cathedral" by Raymond Carver he discusses how and old friend of the Bub’s wife was going to visit them. In a way it made Bub uncomfortable because he has never been around a blind man before and now he was about to get a visit from one. Her wife has been friends with this blind man since a long time, so this was another reason for bub to fell uncomfortable. Bub had never been with a blind man before, so he thought that it would be difficult for him to communicate with the guy. At the beginning Bub had not idea of how to even begin to talk to him, but what he did not know is that at the end all this would change. The blind man made him draw a cathedral which at the begging Bub had difficulties describing it to him. “So we kept on with it. his fingers rode as my hand went over the paper. It was like nothing else in my life up to now” (carver 30) this show how the narrator had his first experience with a blind man and also how this has change him in a way. At first Bub did not like the idea that Robert, the blind man would visit them but at the end everything was better than he thought. This man changed his life. The interaction with this man had a big impact of Bub’s life.

    The Cathedral

The cathedral is a place of where people worship and have been built through out the ages to get closer to god. It has been built by many family generations. The story begins with Bub and his wife while Bub gets into this kind of jealousy because of his wife's caring to this blind man named Robert. Bub seems to not realize how his wife feels about the blind man until they got to talk and got along with each other while watching this late educational channel which was about the cathedrals around the world. They got to talk about it until they Robert said if Bub could draw the place with him because Robert can't see and Bub can't explain the things he see on the T.V clearly to Robert and so they drew on a hard piece of paper together until Robert told Bub to close his eyes and then Bub felt as if he was drawing and feeling like he was not inside the house he was feeling like he was actually at the cathedral the same way as the blind man was feeling.

    The Cathedral

"The Cathedral" by Raymond Carver illustrates a great exanple of what alot of people in society encounter, but in a way that many of us lack communication with others. We judge and never get to know someone in a deeper level. In this short story there is a blind man named Robert who is a stranger to Bub. One can immedilatly tell that Bub is an isolated man that lacks the ability to communicate with other people. Bub is really doubtful about having a stranger come into his and wife's home, but soon gains respect for this blind stranger whom he did not apprecaite. Bub said,"His fingers rode my fingers as my hand went over the paper. It was like nothing else in my life up to now." Bub had a wall built around him before he met Robert, the blind man. The intimacy that they shared drawing this cathedral enabled Bub to see a different light regarding this man. Bub was not only able to accept Robert, but he discovered a new reborn person. Even someone random in this world has the ability to change someone deeply.

A story about a married couple and a blind man. The husband bub is introduce by his wifes' friend Robert who is blind. He and the wife had lack of communication and the marriage was dull. The wife had been friend with Robert for many years. Every year the wife and the blind man Robert would communicate. She told the blind man everything, something she didn't do with her husband. The husband was soon to be introduce to the blind man in there home, which he felt very uncomfortable with. He had no clue of how to respond to this blind man presence. He infact didn't have respect for Robert. Raymand stated "Now this same blind man was coming over to sleep in my house"(6). I think the husband bub finally realize how judgmental he was and not giving himself a chance to get to know Robert. Robert was outgoing, openminded and fun person the opposite of the husband. Bub felt a warmth connection at the end of the story he haven't done in maybe years. He felt confident about his drawings with the blind man and about himself. You cant judge a book by its cover.

    Only Daughter by Sandra Cisneros
This is a story that discribes the true life of woman and how people think that a woman's life should be set.The narrator is an only girl form a family of six boys.I can not imagin what she went through as that girl and also how she was being treated. Her Father thinks for her going to school,he is doing him a favour. since she is going to get married to and she will not have any use for her education.
The disappointment her father felt for her not married was too much even though she is educated. Her father valued her brothers education more than that of the narrator.I know if she has a choice she would want to make her father happy, but life is not like that.Girls are human too like the boys and should be treated same.

    "Only Daughter" by Sandra Cisneros

Sandra Cisneros is coming from a position of eagerness to earn recognition and appreciation from her father. She tries to get his attention for her success. But all her father wished is for her to look for a husband in college. Also I feel as if Sandra is jealous of her older brother who graduates from medical school. She feels that he is her competition. All she wants is to be praised by her father. She knew that she could not get his attention because cannot read english and she is majoring in English. Her dad is the one that expects a lot from his children, that is why she tries only to impress him but not her mom. I think Sandra's dad should have respected her decision. It was wrong for him to think that she should go to college only to find her "future" husband. Lastly, her father should have been proud of her for attending college in the first place instead of doing anything in life.

    Only Daughter by Sandra Cisneros

The story of the only daughter represents exactly what the only daughter or son worth in a family, very important to the family. It shows how far a family or parents expects from their child especially if they are the only daughter or son. A father’s dream for her only daughter is to go to college and get her self a husband, but it was not the right aspiration for the only daughter. Because according to Sandra Cisneros, she said that her brother does not seem to take her going to college to get a husband as a good idea. Evidently, her goal towards getting a husband in the college did not work, but instead it turned out to be that his oldest brother achieves a better career. It now puts Sandra to the edge of trying to impress her father who has being struggling with poverty.

The "Only Daughter," by Sandra Cisneros, is about the only girl out of six boys in her family. All she wants is her dad to accept her for who she is, and not treat her like one of the boys. I am the second born out of four girls. I know how it must feel to do anything just to get your dad's attention. It is hard, especially when there are more kids involved. Cisneros says,"Of all the wonderful things that happened to me last year, that was the most wonderful." She mentions this after showing her father the book she wrote about the colonia he was born and raised in. I saw that maybe the dad did accept her; he just did not show it a lot. Cisneros did not let her dad stop her from following her dreams on majoring in English. Even though she wanted him to accept her, she was going to do her own thing also. We have to do things that will make us happy and no one else.

    "only daughter"
In the short story "only daughter" by Sandra Cisneros, she discusses the things that she goes through being the only daughter of a big family of six sons .in the this short story Cisneros didi not mention her mother at all but instead talked about his dad only. She says how she felt lonely which helped her become a good writer. The author also says that her father did not care what kind of profession she had as long as she had a job. This is very common in Latino families; they just want their kids to be able to help them with some money. Cisneros also explains how he father thought going to college is good for her because then she would find a good husband “being only daughter for my father meant that my destiny would lead to become someone’s wife”. This is what some fathers think about their daughters, they do not expect their daughters to succeed and Cisneros was in this situation where her father believed that. At the end the author’s father felt proud her even though she was just a writer. A great writer.

This semester kind of changed up on me when our English professor told us that we were going to have a new professor which happened to be Mr. H at first I must admit I was kind of upset since I had gotten use to Ms. G. But, within the second day of class I realize I was going to really enjoy this “new” class. I’m really looking forward to what Mr. H has to teach us and learning from my classmates too. So, just hoping this semester goes good! Good Luck Everyone:)

    "Only Daughter"
In "Only Daughter" by Sandra Cisneros she discusses her thoughts and feelings of what it is like growing up the only daughter. Sandra grew up with six brothers and a condescending father. Sandra grew up trying to please her father any way she could. Her father's only wish was for her to get married and become a housewife. Sandra wanted to fulfill her father's dream just as her brother did. Her brother graduated from medical school and their father was extremely proud of. Sandra wanted the same recognition from her father as her brother. Her father thought it was a waste of time for her to go to collage and become a writer. When her book was published and her work started to become profitable her father started to recognize her as his daughter. He was able to read her book in Spanish and was very pleased with her work. Sandra finally felt her fathers acceptance. Her father's wishes for her changed as he saw how happy she was doing what she loved to do.

Growing up with her six brothers and trying to please her father by gaining his approval. By trying to make him understand her decisions and goals by showing him that she can achieve much more then her six brothers can. Sandra wanted to show her father that she can have a profession to become a writer and fulfill her dream, but her father was blinded by his son due to him achieving his goal by graduating from medical school. "Only Daughter" by Sandra Cisneros

Sandra Cisneros was born the only girl in a family of six males. When she was smaller she strongly believed that the career choice of hers was something that her father would have been actually proud of. However, Sandra's father found it difficult to accept this choice of hers and Sandra struggled to find a way to please her father. I believe that most everyone on this planet has always strived to please someone else. I know that is the case for me, until my dad knows I am officially in the Medical Field is when he will be proud of me. Like Sandra's father, he became proud of after she finally had made of living with the career choice she has chosen. Always feeling like the outcast of the family, Sandra helped herself get what she wanted the most, and that was writing. Even though, Sandra's father only believed that she was meant to marry , in the end he shows more approval towards Sandra's decision.

    Only Daughter by Sandra Cisneros

The story "Only Daughter"by Cisneros was about how this Daughter who was in a family of six brothers meaning that she was the 7th child. Her being the only daughter in family gave her a lot of time to be alone. She was able to be in her room and write stories. Her brothers never really let her play with them because of the fact that she was a girl. Her father had a plan for her to get married and be a housewife but her plan was to go to college and become a writer. Her brother was able to attend medical school while she was planning to have a degree in English. Her father was not fond of the idea that she was not married yet and that she was also teaching English. All she wanted from her father was acceptance and for him to understand what she loves. She wrote a book that was able to get published and it was translated into Spanish. She gave her father the book to read and he liked it so much that he wanted more copies to give to the family. She was so happy and she felt complete that she had her fathers acceptance. This story is a great story, I liked it very much because that is how a lot of families are and also Sandra made it very interesting for me to read.

In Sandra Cisneros 'Only Daughter' Cisneros describes her life growing up as a kid being the only daughter in a family of 6 brothers. I myself am an only child, but I can say I did experience her loneliness. I did not have very many friends in school till high school. But like Cisneros in the time I was alone I wrote. I wrote poetry and the beginnings of short stories. In Cisneros story though she was published and I am not. At the end of the story Cisneros was an adult and had come up to her father with a story she wrote and had him read it. Of course because it had so much emotion and was real, he loved it. From there on out I do believe her father never saw her as 'one of the boys' and saw her for what she truely was, his Only Daughter.

    Only Daughter by Sandra Cisneros

"Only Daughter" as it says on the title, The author Sandra Cisneros was the only daughter of six brothers. Then she talks about her dad about being his only daughter. She had very high goals when she was little and that is because she was living with only brothers. Her father's dream for her was to get married when she get into college. Time passed, and she didn't get married when she was in college. Her father was disappointed until he realized that her daughter was doing what she likes and he asked for more copies from the books she made for his family. That's the time when her father accepted her as his only daughter. Really interesting story i'm thinking about what if my mom had a daughter i think she would be left out because my mom has three boys and she always wanted a daughter but it didn't happen anyway. I can feel her loneliness through out the story because if your the only daughter with six brothers then who would you open up to as a girl.

In the story "Only Daughter" by Sandra Cisneros, the narrator painted a vision that most families in America can relate to. She stated "I am the only daughter in a family of six sons" (1). I think the statement was interpret as little room for femininity growth. She is a progeny of a Mexican family. Her father was born in Mexico and the mother was born in America which is considered Mexican-American. I think her father was living a traditional life, when the men provides; the women becomes the wife that cooks, clean, take care of the kids and husband. The story dicusses mainly about how the kids aimed to please their father. It's obvious that the father opinion is valued the most. I can relate to this, because since my grandmother played an important role in my life I wanted to please her as much as I can to make her proud. Sandra expressed early on to her father regarding going to college in the near future. Her father invest most of his time with his sons, believing that their the brains and money makers. The father just thought by her going to college it was an even better opportunity for her to meet her husband. His dream was for her to become some mans housewife. She went to college to fulfill her dreams in becoming a writer, something she loved doing every since she was young. Since her brothers thought playing with girls was not something you should do growing up, she experience her time alone and writing a lot. When one of her brothers graduated from Medical school, it was the biggest accomplishment amongst the family. Her father was extremely happy which probably prove to him that his sons was indeed what he always imagine. That only motivated Sandra to publish her book to prove to her father that he do not only have sons that can always make him proud, but have a daughter that can as well. She knew that having an education was far beyond just becoming a wife. When sandra wrote her book she knew her father had an english barrier and publish it in spanish for her father to read. When the father finally read the book in spanish he was filled with laughter and enjoyed what he read about himself and the family. Finally, it was the most exiting day of Sandra life to have felt excepted as his daughter the writer.

    Cathedral by Raymond Carver

A story about a married couple and a blind man names Robert. The narrator(Bub) talks about his experience with Robert. At first Bub was very judgmental towards Robert, Bub had no positive interest in Robert. Bub was a jealous man because Bub and Robert's wife had a better relationship than he did. The blind man is a really nice person once you get to know him but Bub did not give Robert a chance. The narrator said "Now this same blind man was coming over to sleep in my house"(6) Bub did not like the blind man at all. I would of been mad myself, like why is this blind man here and what does he want from us? A lot of people in society need to grow up and really get to know someone before judging them. In the end Bub finally gave Robert a chance because the blind man started to open up to Robert and their relationship starting to build up in good ways.

In "Only Daughter"by Cisneros the story is about a girl that is the only daughter out of seven brothers. The only future that her father had for her was to become a wife and have a family. But when she would talk about her college future to her father, he would not think much about it and just brush it out by saying o OK that is good. But in her father's eyes college for her was going to find a husband and not really major in anything. finally when she major in English and became a writer her father just refer to her as just a teacher. She just felt that being a writer was not enough for him to be proud of her. Not like her brother that graduated from medical school, who her father was very proud of.But when she got her her story translate into Spanish, and gave it to her father to read it. Her father loved it and wanted more copies to give them out to the family. She felt so happy that her father was proud of something she had done.

    Allegory of the Cave
What really represent a Plato –“ Allegory of Cave” it can be interpreted in many different ways? My understanding it can be spilled in different direction, with a grasp of understanding. We all experience caves in our life. I will not go back what has been already said about –“Allegory of Cave”. I will present different explanation what to me a cave really means. Most of our life’s we are sitting in our caves. Not sure how to get out of it. We struggle every day to make better tomorrow. Our life is build similar what a cave it looks like. Weather we want leave the cave behind us or not, depends on each individual. We know that we cannot stay in our caves for long time. Been prisoners with a peace of handcuffs on our hand it is impossible to make your life better. We carry our handcuffs on our hands without notice it. It is not easy to free yourself as long as you not realize that you are still in that cave wandering when is going to light shine at the end of the cave. We cannot see deferent’s’ between lights and dark, if we do not experience it in our own lives. No meter how much someone may tell you that is something wrong with you life, if you do not want a change in your life. You are still stuck in your own dark room with no light at all. Blindly wandering and thinking is there way out, out of darkness. When is a dark around you, you cannot see any future. You windows are closed, rooms locked, and you sitting there without notice it. Cave is darkness that you live in it. Without hope or future. Only thing you need to do is to break your cave so you can see again. I have a cave of my own, that I am trying to break the walls to get light through it.

    Mindset Chapter 4

As I was reading Mindset, I learn more and more about the two types of mindsets. I have always thought that althletes were natural born stars. As I kept reading I learned it is not always like that. Famous athletes delevoped their talent. They worked hard at what they did. It all ties back to the two types of mindsets. These athletes decided to work on their talent and make themselves better. They went the extra mile to grow as stars. Worked hard and worked their way to the top. I always thought that a talent was natural, but according to Mindset that is not the case. Growth is essential to an athletes success in life. It also gave a sense of modivation to persue whatever I want to do in life. No matter what other people say.

    allegory of the cave

In plato’s “ allegory of the cave” he discusses about the cave being institutions which represents me in some way. Family, friends, school, church are some examples of the institution that are represented by the cave in plalto’s story. This institutions make the person who I am today. People behave depending on the kind of environment or people that you are surrounded by. Depending on the thing that parents and all those different institutions teach kids is how they behave throughout their lives. “… Here they have been from their childhood, and have their legs and necks chained...”(1) this shows that kids grow in a and environment which they are tied to from their childhood till they grow up. All the institution the cave represents makes us who we are,

In bell’s “Baba and Daddy and Gus”, the author discuses about this married couple the are definitely the opposite from each other in many ways according to the author. Baba reminded me of my aunt who would cuss a lot just like she does, whereas Gus is calm guy. The authors says how baba was a quilt maker and she loved to tell stories. The author also says the baba was the one who had the power. In the other hand her daddy Gus was a guy who did not ruled, he was a calm, gentle man, full of tenderness as Baba described him for that reason kids liked to be around him. “’ play with a puppy; he’ll lick you in the mouth’” this shows how Baba lived in a power of language like Bell described her. this is very true that many girls face this situation where if they don’t take a relationship serious nobody is going to take them serious either, guys will just want to play mess with them. Even though the relationship between Baba and daddy gus did not seem to be a good one at the end when he died babba really seem to miss him and felt that she could not live without him.

Post#7Baba and daddy Gus by bell hooks

In this story Baba and Daddy Gus it was very interesting story. In some ways it reminded me of my grandparents. Baba and Daddy gus dont sleep in the same room and that is like my grandparents they dont sleep in the same room either. Baba and Daddy Gus are very different from each other they are definitely the complete oppisites. Baba loves to fuss and cuss and tell it like it is and just really has no care in the world. She doesnt care what people think about her. She also does not like people who lied. Daddy Gus was very quiet keep to himself, sat on his chair. he was a loveable guy though. You could give him hugs and kisses and his granduaghter loved that because she didnt get that from her mom. She loved goibg over to her grandparents house she learned so much about everything. her mother didnt like that and would not want her to go over. But in the end once when Daddy Gus died Babba felt lonely inside and she died to later on. It just goes to show that she really missed him and maybe she even could of regretted not ever showing enough love towards him.

In Baba and Daddy Gus by Bell Hooks, he discribed to us a boy who truely appreicated his grandparents especiial his grand dad. The author made me to remenber a family friend that comes to my house. He has the personalit of Baba,he loves to praise himself and takes alot.
His mouth is always open, he is always tell us what he bought and what he did .He can go on and on talking.when ever he buys something new, he come to my house to show off.He is like Baba, he does not care about anyother person. But his friend is like Daddy gus who will always sit and watch him talk non stop.Even thoubh he does not belive that there is any person in this world that is better than he is. He does take about God , but he hardly goes to church. As i read this story, i wish i was touched because i see this almost everyday in my house. The narrator loves his grand Dad alot because that he does not want to belive Baba when ever she mentions that Daddy Gus smells like nasty, even though they have lived together for 70 years she still was sounding arrogant about her husband is very bad. Baba and her husband was dscribed very well by the narrator that if one have ever come acroos some one like that , you feel that you are watching a real life movie. trust me, i know what i am talking about.Life is too short for people to thaink that they are almighty.Peopl should not feel too pround of them selvies and should not talk bad about anybody in their life time. If you choose to be married to some one esspecially when it is for almost more than 70yrs, then their should be an atom of love that both can never do with out.We should not keep our self apart of each other just like Baba did.She never belived in God and she still have something bad to say about going to church and people who go to church. She thinks she fail down from heaven, and may be she did not knoew she will die one day.
All we need to do is love our nigeboures as we love ourselives and talk good about others. Also appricate peopla around us and talk less some times. What ever she does or says, her husband loves her and never said any bad thing about her which means he is a good role model for any kind of kid but for his dear wife, kids are not suppose to be around her at all just because of her behavour.

In Bell's "Baba and Daddy and Gus", the author discusses about a couple who were the oddest of people in a crowd. But they were unique in a way that they both had their own unique way of life. The husband Daddy Gus who collected beautiful wooden cigar boxes, was a devout believer and a man of integrity. Then we had the wife Baba who loves to "cuss" in a improvisational manner, loves to tell her stories, incredible quilt maker who's work was beautiful and like Daddy Gus was a woman of her word. The couple were rarely civil to each other but still loved each other even in the end when Daddy Gus past away and Baba felt forever lonely without him. The preachers words "It is hard to live in a world where your choicest friends are gone" can really touch this story and the readers, because the way the characters interact with each other on civil terms they still symbolize there in love even if one past away.

Baba and Daddy Gus by Bell Hooks

In the story "Baba and Daddy Gus" by Bell Hooks talks about the story of two grandparents that are complete opposites. Baba is the type of lady that is a hard worker and that her ways with words. She also has her ways with words. Daddy Gus on the other hand is quite quiet and to him self. He is also very calm and seems relaxed and patient. Even though they are opposites and sleep in different rooms does not mean they don't care for each other. This story reminds me a lot of how my grandparents are because my grandpa is the one who stays calm and usually just listens to my grandma fuss around just how it does in this story. The quote saying "you want everyone to know them as you did, to love them as you did" is I believe the best quote because your grandparents are the ones who taught you so many things. This story shows really the person people become later on in life. At the end of the story, even though Daddy Gus goes first he isn't forgotten. He is well remembered from his scent all the way to the things he collected. For Baba of course it was hard because she had lost her closest friend. She also after a while went away just as Daddy Gus did.

In Bell Hooks short story called "Baba and Daddy Gus", she mentions everything about her grandparents. It seemed to me that Hooks really enjoyed learning about her grandparents just by watching them and listening to them. She states how they are both very different and have their ups and downs; but they stay madly in love. Her Baba is always talking to her and showing Hooks things she does and believes in. I look up to my mom. She has been through a lot, but she still stays strong. I admire her for not letting things bring her down. I hope that as I get older, I turn out to be a good person like how my mom is today. Hooks says, "Daddy Gus was the companion she missed most." She mentions this after the death of Baba. Baba died after her husband. To me this quote symbolizes that once you become extremely close to someone, when they are gone; it hits that person like a shock. Especially in marriage, is hard to go on with life when your significant other is not with you anymore. Hooks loved her grandparents and she took everything she learned from them and applied them to her own life.

In Bell Hooks short story called "Baba and Daddy Gus", she describes her childhood with her grandparents and how they, in many ways, molded and shped her into the woman she is today. Even thought her grandparents lived separate lives while living in the same house, she demonstraites how she learned a lot from both. My grandparents like Hooks grandparents, tought me a lot growing up as a kid. My grandma would always say stuff like "go to the bathroom in twos" or "always keep at least $5 in your bra incase you need to get away from a bad date or something" and most importantly, "never leave your purse in the car". These simple little life lessons have helped me in my life and always remind me of my grandma. Now my grandpa on the other hand, is the family rebel. (I think thats partly where i get my rebellious nature from)Grandpa use to be3 a Torrance police officer in the late 60's and throught the 70's so he saw a lot of stuff go down. What you would not expect from an ex cop would be for them to be the biggest theife in your family! My grandpa always told the grandkids that he would give us $20 dollars to steal something he would pick out while we were in a restaurant. If we got out with the item and no one noticed, we would get the $20. Needless to say, we never did take grandpas bets, but we did have fun watching him try and steal little things from the table them blame someone else. I enjoyed growing up with my grandparents because they tought me that family is everything and to never through family away for anything.

In Baba and Daddy Gus I can compare her grandparents and childhood towards mine. It is almost exactly like her childhood experience. When I was a kid I was raised by both of my grandparents. I did not really like the way they raised me because they were very strict and they have their own ways of living life. I have learned a lot from them specially the family traditions. Sometimes i get ashamed because of my grandparents during my childhood. I was so different from other kids. It was so hard for me to fit in because I was just different. I was just a student that studies hard , go to school, go back home and do my homework. During lunch time I just stay on the library because that was just the way i was raised by my grandparents. But when i got into middle school everything changed. I started to rebel against them I had a lot of friends and I started doing stuff just to fit in.

Baba and Daddy Gus by Bell Hooks
Baba and Daddy Gus, by Bell Hooks is none the less simplest, most overused subject in the love book, opposites attract. Bell Hooks illustrates the confusion she had about whether her grandparents really loved each other, seeing as they had nothing in common. Daddy Gus was was a short, dark slow walking man. Baba was of white skin tone, tall and felt the need to walk fast. Daddy Gus was a very quite, calm man with few words to speak. Baba was a woman who spoke loudly without considering that other people might think. Baba was an outspoken woman. She did not believe in store bought materials and the church. On the contraire, Daddy Gus was a man whom attended to hear the word of God. These two couples were the perfect example of opposites attract. Even though, someone would asume that they both lacked the right love towards each other, they both had characteristics that the other was missing. It was not until the death of Daddy Gus, that Bell Hooks, realized the truthfulness of their relationship. As she said, " They were strangers and lovers- two eccentrics who created their own world." Without the presecene of Daddy Gus, Babe was lonesome in that exact world that they both had created together.

The "Baba and Daddy Gus" by bell hooks, it's a story about grandparents who truly love eachother in a profound different manner. The grandparents did not sleep in the same bed nor agreed on many subjects. The grandson expressed how they had an impact on his life and others. Grandma Baba was a type of lady that used profanity and was very outspoken on any subject no matter what you thought of her. Which reminds me of my Grandmother whom I adored so much. My grandmother will curse you out with meaning and what I mean by that is she would tell you about yourself whether you want to hear it or not. My grandmother was that lady that the whole neighborhood knew and respected. My grandpa in the other hand would give us gifts and money whenever we find out he has it which was hilarious, because there was over thirty grandkids. So my grandparents are somewhat similar. I think, I really will enjoy each memory of the past times we have spent together and the impact they had on many lives. In the story the narrator stated "To me,Baba was a woman of power" (24). I think that tell the reader how much impact his grandmother had on him. To think of someone in that way is wonderful, which shows how much respect and love you have for that person. The strong moral that my grandparents installed upon me will forever be apart of me.

Baba and DaddyGus by bell hooks

The story of Baba and DaddyGus talks about the relationships between two people who have different view about life, but loved their grandchild. Baba Wife to DaddyGus seems to be a tough, strong, courageous, and motivating woman. While the husband daddy Gus is a man of calm spirit, whom people sees as slow minded, weak, lazy. But significantly, have things that both of them have in common. For example they care for their grand kids, has integrity, stand by their words. This story narrates the knowledge we can obtain from our families, especially with what the author said about learning that she got from her grandmother Baba, which she could not learn from her mom. She talked about the skill the grand mother has taught her. For example, her grandmother sews quilt and she is the only person who taught her how to be courageous and be herself. She said that she has learned a lot from her grandparents and they have made a lot of impact to her life.

I've been in a loyal & very loving relationship with my high school sweetheart Cameron, going on 5 years now. On my free time I enjoy quality time w/family & friends. It doesn't take much to please me, I can have fun with something as simple as having a movie night at my apartment w/junk food LOL. I am a Nurse Assistant and work at a foster facility Open Arms. I work with babies and absolutely love it! All in all, I am a very responsible, respectful, and loving person. I am looking forward to this semester of school & hope to accomplish all my goals for this year.
